Dislocación takes its name from an idea that runs through all of Paola Lettieri’s work: fragments that are constantly reconfiguring. “Reality feels like a structure that never fully stabilizes,” she says. “There is always a margin of error, of movement, of displacement.” In this most recent series the surface opens up. Large black and grey forms float on a raw white ground, crossed by clusters of outlined geometric fragments and touches of red and sand. Each work begins with an intuition and evolves through repetition and displacement; accidents are not corrected but absorbed into the painting. There is more space, more silence and more tension: every form seems to have just moved, or to be about to. Rather than fixing a single meaning, the series invites the viewer to stay inside that oscillation.
